Offense Steals The Show As Ravens Win Opener
Joe Flacco had the first 300-yard and three touchdown game of his career against the Chiefs.
After a decade playing second fiddle to their vaunted defense, the offense for the Baltimore Ravens may finally be ready to share lead billing.
Led by confident second year quarterback Joe Flacco, the Ravens amassed a franchise record 501 yards of offense and scored 21 fourth quarter points in a 38-24 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Ravens jumped to a quick 10-0 advantage, but a blocked punt recovered for a touchdown cut the margin to three points at halftime. Kansas City then took the lead in the third quarter on a touchdown pass from Brodie Croyle to Dwayne Bowe.
Flacco responded with a touchdown pass to Todd Heap, but a Kansas City field goal tied the score at 17-17 early in the fourth period.
The game was tied 24-24 following another Croyle touchdown pass with 5:21 remaining.
Flacco then led the Ravens on an eight play, 74-yard drive that ended with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Mark Clayton.
Following a defensive stop on the next Kansas City drive, Willis McGahee punctuated the victory with a one-yard touchdown run.

After being known for “managing” the game and primarily relying on the rushing game a year ago, Flacco came out firing in the opening game of his second season and passed for a career-high 307 yards and three touchdowns.
The running game was also strong for the Ravens as Ray Rice rushed for 108 yards and McGahee added 44 yards.
Larry Johnson and the Kansas City running attack was limited to only 29 yards on the ground. With newcomer Matt Cassel unable to play, Croyle filled in admirably with 177 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions.
